England Senior & U21 Teams

National Team Deployments
Role: Security Team Operative
Deployment: Hotel Security, Training Coverage and On-Site Player Transit
Duration: 11 Days — Senior Team: 4 Days | U21 Team: 7 Days
Team: Hotel and Training Security

Overview

Security coverage across two England national-team deployments, supporting the senior team and U21 squad during their hotel stays and training activities.

The senior-team deployment involved a hotel reserved exclusively for the team. The U21 deployment took place at a separate hotel, where two floors were reserved for the squad. Both assignments required coverage of accommodation areas, access routes and training facilities, with particular attention to the surrounding area whenever players moved between locations.

My role involved securing hotel lobbies and corridors, maintaining pitchside coverage during training, and monitoring on-site player transit between accommodation, transport and other designated areas. This included conducting headcounts and tracking player movements while remaining alert to unauthorised approaches, supporters and vehicles.

Operational Requirements

  • Maintain security coverage of designated hotel areas, including lobbies, corridors and access routes serving team accommodation.

  • Monitor the wider area during player movements, remaining alert to people or vehicles approaching the team’s routes and transport points.

  • Conduct headcounts as players passed between locations to support awareness of their movements.

  • Provide pitchside security during training, including coverage of player entry and exit routes.

  • Adapt coverage to the accommodation arrangements: an exclusively occupied hotel for the senior team and designated floors within a separate hotel for the U21 squad.

  • Remain observant during quieter periods and ready for changes in activity as players moved through the site.

Outcome

Security coverage was maintained across both deployments, spanning hotel accommodation, training areas and on-site player movements over 11 days.

Both the team and Head of Security expressed satisfaction with my work. I was also asked to return for future deployments where availability allows and additional operatives are required.

Operational Assessment

The deployments highlighted the importance of maintaining awareness across an occupied site as activity shifted between accommodation, transport and training.

During player movements, attention had to remain on both the players and the surrounding environment. Headcounts supported movement tracking, while observation of nearby people, vehicles and access routes helped identify potential unauthorised approaches.

The different hotel arrangements also required an understanding of which areas were reserved for each squad and where security coverage was needed around those boundaries.
